Ref the article on Craig Wylie (Feb2009), I haven’t seen a piece of such pretentious artist gobbledegook such as this for a long time.
It is a portrait, yes a very good photographic likeness portrait, but both Robin Capon and the artist fly off into that world of art speak and I am astonished to find that the ubiquitous word ‘ juxtaposition’ does not figure.
Yes there is a shirt, some stripes and spots, a cardigan and downlit features but compression, contradiction, opposition, irritated, undulating, confrontational vortex?? Please! The irony of the pink?
It is the sort of stuff that causes the hackles of the layman to rise, including mine and I do paint a bit.
