This chap makes his art whilst afloat. He sells for quite a lot it, seems. What small parts can be seen on the news look like rubbish to me, and the whole exercise one of childish excitement wreaking victory over common sense, but hey, if Mr Saatchi says it's art, it's art.

"... moving nomadically from place to place, in search of the sublime". - what a quote. What complete and utter cobblers, straight off ...

and on its own enough to make avoid his stuff like the plague. Isn't moving from place to place what nomads do?
I wouldn't give a thank you for any of his work, much less hang it on a wall. I'm out.

I take a step back, remove the toffee nose, and view it rationally and the result:-
I certainly consider it as art but whether or not it is good art is in the eye of the beholder. I don't dislike the results but I must add that they don't do much for me. As for how it is produced - well yes maybe it is a big gimmick but you can't deny he catches the attention of the market place. Like Tracey Emin et al he may not be that good as an artist in the eyes of the majority but you can't take away from him his superb marketing skills and for this I admire him.
But in summary it's all of little consequence.

Painting in the bath - great idea - but so many unanswered questions:-
Will the palette float?
Will I still need a jar of clean water?
Will my glasses steam up?
If they do will the painting be very loose?
How long before the water gets cold?
What happens if I need a wee?
Where do I stick my brushes?
What will I lean my easel against?
Can I use shampoo to clean my brushes?
Will the paper go wrinkly?

Syd, your "floating meal" comment has given me the best laugh I've had today! With Splosh's idea of painting in the bath instead, at least sharks would be unlikely! And you'd be less likely to drown, as well. However, painting what you see would be a tad boring too, at least in my bathroom.
p.s. have just read the article, wonder where he found wild dogs in the ocean?!

I shall not groan at Cy Twombly, fear not.
As for this lad - well .... izzitart? I don't know: I suppose that up to a point you'd have to say that if he thinks he's an artist, and sells his work, he probably is (Saatchi to one side, who I think bears out Francis Bacon's comment on Jasper Johns and Andy Warhol, revealed today: that fashion has more to do with some artworks than art does, in short).
It doesn't say much to me on a cursory inspection, but then that's all I can give it given the paucity of evidence. One thing is clear - if he writes his own publicity, he's heading at speed for Pseuds' Corner; but perhaps it's his agent or gallery - and perhaps it's very difficult to say anything meaningful about your own work, and we shouldn't, on the whole, try to because the work ought to be able to speak for itself.
