I've just read the introduction to a book on the Dutch Golden age. I've not studied art history formally, but the closing down of catholicism and the ban on art in churches must have had an impact on Northern European Art, especially the UK after Henry VIII's reformation. Did we lose any British art that way? Would we know if we did? Not only did subject matter change, but I'm surmising that art became the property of the rich, owned and viewed by them.  Without church finance, work must have also been scarce, hence artists high tailing it to Italy. I'm too lazy (and don't want to get side-tracked) to look it all up.  Does anyone know of a good short history available on-line? Norrette (of no religion)

The Art Story is a great starting point for various movements. Here's their take on the Dutch Golden Age: https://www.theartstory.org/movement/dutch-golden-age/
Thanks Martin.
