I don't know if this is the right place to pose this problem...I attended my first art group today in a long time...all women and all so nice...two of us new with the list of requirements given to us plus extra paper...in the mean time all the regulars got out their work some photos from magazines some personal photos, dogs and cats...nice paintings...in rushed the Tutor now it seems that you do what you want...so she asked us did we bring anything to paint...well no...so she shot into the kitchen and rushed out with a metal jug a couple of apples and a dark brown jug and plonked them right in front of us...a tonal exercise with the three primary colours making grey...our paper and equipment was reflecting on the metal jug and of course being moved about...so we set about a quick sketch mine loose the other lady's detailed...over came the Tutor took her chair and the brush out of her hand and proceeded to paint her picture and told me to come over and watch and learn...being polite I did...but then she did the same with my painting for which I had made plans shadows no background unless needed which I had begun...out of my hand came the brush chair taken over and my paper covered with wash and brush marks from the darkest well..then I noticed a few of the ladies just sitting back and it seems she goes around and paints out their problems for them...I was always under the assumption that never let anyone take your brush out of your hand and I did for the first time...I carried on and managed to leach out much but not all of the dark grey she put on my paper...this was no longer my painting...it seems she teaches by doing their work for them not setting up an exercise...I will post the abomination in my gallery as I do all my work not tweaked...next week I'm going with a photo and all my paints and I'm not going to allow her to touch my work...I felt rather sorry for these ladies because I thought you learn by doing not letting someone else do otherwise regardless what your painting is like at least it's yours...a long one hope you all don't fall asleep but any advice gratefully received on how to deal with this "Tutor" and has this happened to anyone else...I will keep going because I have paid and the group are so nice...and I'm sure the I'll show you part of me will emerge...she didn't like my painting and told me so...but my Family loved it and that's all that counts >:-) >:-) >:-)
