"I did drawings almost daily for a few years, and I've kept all the sketchbooks. Looking back at these little sketches, they are often more interesting than some of the paintings I've done."
I have just copied and pasted this comment from an earlier thread ,the comment is Keora's.
My View.
It is another viewpoint re drawing skills . It is also one I hold dearly, I too have a large amount of sketch books from a5 up to a3. I love looking back on them , full of memories, people, places , things . Hot sun on my back in Africa and the smell of elephant and lion, Sitting in churches listening to an organ recital, watching people at airports , waiting rooms and on the beach. Drawing my various dogs over the years ...grand children , even one I did recently of my husband in hospital.
I also when possible go to a life drawing group , no tutor just the human form.
The joy I get and have had over the years because I draw is really beyond compare. I don't hold any patronising views re drawing or not , it's how I work and I love it.

It is obvious drawing is very important to you Sylvia and that you derive great pleasure and memories from it. The most important thing in our lives, apart from wishing for good health, is that we derive great pleasure from the hobbies that are important to each and every one of us. Do you know that I am the only person from my family who has hobbies, and sometimes I feel I have too many. What would I do without my painting, reading, music and crafts - probably be a very boring person.
As you have so rightly said in the past "viva la difference" - cos without it we wouldn't have these little "spats".

I don't particularly like drawing but have always drawn out a picture before painting it. I see quite a lot of coloured pencil work appearing in the gallery and I know Tao uses them so I have just sent for a set of polychromos pencils to try them, I have loads of coloured pencils here and in fact gave my little great niece a set this afternoon as I wasn't using them and she needed a set for school. But looking into which are the best I came to the conclusion that Faber Castell seem to be tops so decided to invest in them, watch this space!

Told you I could be boring Tao. Actually I had been trying to decide how best to display my fibre art on my walls because they are so delicate to handle. I finally came up with sticking them on stretched canvas. I paint round the edges of the canvas to match the art and then I varnish that in matte varnish (the canvas edges) - so in reality I have been watching 3 canvases drying which is a bit difficult as I only have two eyes! The upside is that I have resolved an ongoing problem and they look very effective.
I might have to go to bed soon to give all you good people a rest from my constant ramblings today😒
