I am upset by a painting on the gallery , I feel it is not appropriate at this moment in time. I have said so to the artist who sadly has got cross. LONDON. 04 . 06 .17. Thoughts .
Not seen but will look Thanks for your note...i will get to a pc and empty the inbox. D
I'll start this with my standard 'each to their own' statement as I never seek to inflict my views on others uninvited. Sylvia, I understand where you're coming from, but I disagree. It in no way shows any disrespect to any of those involved in this terrible incident...maybe I would feel differently if it was somehow being flippant or had some sort of nonesense agenda but I don't think that is the case. I'm a superficial soul most of the time so it's not something I do, but maybe the artist created this to process their feelings on a very emotive event. I certainly don't find it harder to look at than the news reports that we have constantly seen for the last two days.
This is a hard one Sylvia. I'm a very emotional person at the best of times and am finding it very hard looking at these harrowing pictures on the news. To escape I came onto the site and saw this! Yes, of course people are moved by tragedy on such a large scale and I can understand certain artists wanting to grab their brushes and pour their emotions into their paintings, however I would have preferred that this wasn't here at the present time when they are still sifting the debris for bodies of families. My one consolation is that Jackie has not painted people trapped in their flats or hurling their children out of the windows! I well remember the fascination of people with cameras showing again and again the people trying to escape the fires after the Twin Towers tragedy. Our responses, however will differ as much as our emotions allow.
Art has always been topical, but I find the problem with it is that it is not horrible enough to portray the event.
I am afraid I had the same reaction as Sylvia, when I first saw this painting, having woken up to the news about the horror of the fire. but having said that I can't say that I like abstract art on any subject, but I do think the timing is a little off.

I am really sorry to hear such awful news Sylvia and my good wishes go to your husband for a full recovery. My thoughts are with you and your family and of course I understand completely where you are coming from as I too hold the same views.
I've had a look at the painting and can see both points of view but on balance I think it is insensitive to post it so soon after the event when relatives and friends, and others, are still in the midst of the trauma. Artistic expression by all means but with consideration for the feelings of others.
Oh Sylvia, I am so sorry to hear about your husband's accident, you must be devastated. I hope you have better news soon. As Syd has said, keep your chin up and know that all of your friends here on POL are thinking about you and your family.
Hope all goes well with your husbands recovery Sylvia.
I am so sorry to read of your husbands accident. my thoughts go with you both and wish a speedy recovery for him. Tao
Haven't seen the painting, so won't comment on that at the moment at least, but best wishes to you and your husband, Sylvia - you've come through a lot in the last 12 months and I'm sorry that this has added to your troubles: my best wishes, in which I join with everyone else here.
