I too have LP and Artist collection going back about 10 years and still find interesting articles to read again and depending on the mood or phase of your life some articles appeal more than others at certain times. I still but the Artist and sometimes LP - a lovely companion to a coffee break. I also feel we need to support these magazines as they provide a great free site for us all :-D

The great thing about The Artist is that it offers a continuity of approach, and isn't constantly sold from one proprietor to another, which is the frustrating thing about Artists' & Illustrators - which was a good and improving magazine under the editorship of John Swinfield, but then got sold and the staff changed; in my opinion it's only now struggling back to form, and hasn't the same iconoclastic feel to it that it used to have.
But it does still have its crossword - which I like.
There's a lot to be said for a long-serving editor like Sally Bulgin at TA. It sets a standard and a tone; I feel TA has standards, and that I know what they are; not always sure of the latter with A&I.

I've subscribed to TA for a year now & am into most of the content. It doesn't take me long to read it from cover to cover.
I would describe myself as a' sunday dauber ' so would probably be better off with Leisure Painter if I'm honest.
I often look through LP on the shelf but don't commit to parting with the cash.
My reason is that I only use oils & occasional drawing & TA seems to provide more articles on these subjects.
I don't profess to being anywhere as good as the contributors but like looking to my peers for advice & inspiration.
I appreciate both mags try to cover all bases but I can't buy both every month.
Just thought I'd throw my two penneth in as someone at the bottom of the artistic food chain.

Neil gets me thinking again...wood cuts?...lino cuts?...screen printing? These I know how to do and have tried...
Encaustics? I think I have worked this out from looking at supplier's catalogues...ditto Batik
A 'From the Artists' Easel' feature from a living artist sounds good too...
Copying from Neil..."Artists with strong ideas and views they where not afraid to express".
