Just seen a 5 minute You -Tube Video (dated last year) entitled "Scraping - New Method in Pastel Painting" by Serge Feeleenger. Even if you aren't interested in pastels you will be amazed by this. Every self-respecting artist will be shocked at the end!!
Great vid -
It must be very difficult to control where the pastel dust goes
Nice working method it showed.

Adele, you´re so right. All through the demonstration I had been wondering how the pastel dust would stick to the surface. His front room must be covered in it. I do hope he took photos for limited edition prints.
The strength and the weakness exposed - you can do it this way, by shaving pastel sticks (I say "you can": I most definitely don't mean that "I could") but it won't adhere. Which makes this, essentially, a very clever parlour-trick. I doubt that you could even fix the pastel, because it won't have been held by the grain of the paper. But yes, you could photograph the work and make prints of it, but you wouldn't have an original - I suppose the question is, does that matter? http://www.isleofwightlandscapes.net http://www.wightpaint.blogspot.co.uk
Interesting to view but I won't bother.
Halfway through the vid I had a feeling that he was going to do that. I was quite upset! Don't know if anyone saw the follow-on vid which showed him oil painting with 10 brushes simultaneously? He had one attached to each finger and thumb and a few were electric brushes. Looked like he was conducting an orchestra! Oh well back to my single brush. Well done alang23 for being able to upload the vid onto this site - that kind of knowledge of technology is beyond me.
good post Adele, nice to see the found 'share'
