One of the many reasons I like it here on POL, is that often looking at other people's work can inspire you to try something different. For weeks I've been sitting in my shed (usually to keep out of the heat), thinking it's time I tarted it up a bit. I sometimes use it in the summer when it's too hot indoors, also on those rare occasions when I fiddle with oils or acrylic. Like everybody I suppose, I have many paintings that are never going on my wall. I don't sell my work, too old and lazy for the hassle involved. Nor do I do commissions...done one or two in the past and HATED it. So...I end up with a lot of paintings. I've been thinking... fill in part of one shed wall with MDF...it'll be about 5 ft x 3 ft. (Existing shelves above and below.) Then make a collage with old paintings. As my stuff is mainly watercolor based, I'd need to seal it. Could be, if I like it, I've enough pictures to collage all four walls AND the ceiling. I could very well turn my old shed into a modern day 'Cistern Chapel.' That's what I've been thinking. And thinking. And then thinking a bit more. You'll have spotted there's no 'activity' mentioned with all this thinking. And then...Blow me down...I'll go to the foot of our stairs...Swipe me...etc, etc. Peggy Smart has made a 3ft x 4ft poster using her paintings...a collage. Posted today. Love it. I think she's a new member, it's the only thing shown in her art. What I HAVE done is group a lot of my more duff pictures (don't think I've posted them, but no guarantees there) into one big pic. This gives a very vague idea of how it might look. The actual collage won't be pics glued next to one another...I'll cut them into shapes...should be fun. Here's that grouping of duff, failed, 'not-the-result-I-was-looking-for' pics. There are plenty of others. So. That's the plan. Shopping list...Glue...Sharp scissors...sealant...MDF board...Anti-Lethargy pills...a bucket of get-up-and go. It'll take a while. I'll let you know how I get on. Or probably I won't. But it won't matter, because you'll have forgotten. Watch this space. Or don't. Lew.
Oh, Lew, I will be watching this space, sounds like a great idea.. you've made me smile, all those thoughts are very familiar to mine, over and over again they go. But.........🤔
That's a brill idea, Lew. I can't see anything in the collection that could be regarded as failed work, but then again it's your eye that sees what you don't like. I really like the first and third on the top line and the second painting in the second line, I find these very appealing. Even though I've enlarged the image on the screen I can't read the words of the second line painting, no doubt they will be humorous. Let me know where I can purchase a bucket of 'get-up-and-go; I could do with a large one to keep me going.
Just think Lew, your shed could be London's No. 1 tourist attraction in 2020.
Yes Carol...what constitutes failed work is down to individuals...most pics I make aren't the image I imagined...they are something else. Most of the time that's OK, but some just don't cut it for any number of reasons. But I have masses of stuff under the spare room bed for this project....just discovered the shed roof's leaking. Got to sort that out first. Tony, my shed is in a secret location far from London.
