Our daughter and her family had come up on a visit and we went to York for the day. Not wishing to queue up for a coupe of hours to visit the Jorvik Centre with them, Chas and I left them to it and wandered off and, surprise, surprise, found ourselves in one of the Castle Art Galleries. What struck me first was a series of paintings by Robert Oxley, depicting animals. They had drips running down from the portraits - a new trend which I normally HATE! However they really suited his paintings and I fell in love with them. Then my eye caught some Abstract paintings done in the new "Acrylic Pour" style - wow! They looked beautiful "in the flesh" and had a sort of porcelain quality about them. Now I quite like Acrylic Pour, but up close, these were sensational and there is obviously more to them then just swirling paint on to the canvas. The artist for these was Wendy Satchell. We spent a happy time in the Gallery, talking to one of the Art Consultants, even though she knew we were not going to buy anything. However, I noticed a giclee print by Folk Singer Bob Dylan. Not particularly good, in my opinion, of a sketch of a backview of a woman sitting down, priced at over £6,000! Very nearly bought it - ha ha! Would I ever have a go at the Acrylic Pour technique - well if it wasn't so messy, perhaps, but you never know!
We have a Castle Art Gallery in Nottingham, Adele. My eldest granddaughter, Lily, loves me to take her in. Robert Oxley exhibits there too. The animals you refer to are amazing up close. They have also had paintings by Bob Dylan and Ronnie Wood. Wendy Satchel has also exhibited. It's a lovely gallery and they change the paintings on a regular basis. Ellen
Ronnie Wood is quite a good painter Ellen and some of Bob Dylan's work is also good. I wonder if the £6,000 price tag for his print was because of the quality of the picture or who it was by?? I was pleasantly surprised with how many paintings I liked.
