I have just requested that my entry into this quarter's competition be removed. I know several POL members have submitted lovely paintings and just wanted to warn you that it is believed a number of people have been voting for themselves over and over again. The rules clearly state that you may vote once for any painting so those of you who have genuinely had friends and strangers voting don't stand a chance and WN webmasters have been asked to investigate. This didn't happen the first time round but the voting system is so badly flawed it obviously didn't take long for people to find a way round it.
We had this happen last year with a dog rescue competition with very valuable prizes where one organisation ended up with hundreds of thousands of votes above any other. The system was altered to require people to register an email address to vote. Not ideal and can still be beaten but more difficult. Checking the IP address of votes is a more reliable but time consuming method. So please don't be disappointed if you have no success in this one.
Apparently it's so simple, my son offered to write a script ( a little piece of programme code) for me to do automated voting. I declined. If a painting can't win because people genuinely like it. it's not worth entering.
