Good thread idea Michael.  I have a round plastic tube brush container, the sort that the lid slides over the base...not easy  to explain, but basically a double plastic tube. I cut the bottom third off a small commercial water bottle , this fits over my brush container and makes a brilliant water pot.

Pat - I do admire your work and I am sure you must have something to share - any tips are always welcome, after all there are artists at all stages of their development on this site - and for the more advanced even if only as a reminder - I often pick up ideas from beginners in my groups so there's always something to learn/share. I must say I often smile at the tips given by contributors to the Artist and LP - talk about variations on a theme - but these are usually reserved to the actual painting process rather than the practicalities of being an artist. For example I keep couple of plastic milk containers topped up with water in the studio as I don't have running water out there - ah another tip!!

I like to see the old leaded windows of a cottage scratched out in the diamond pattern with a tooth pick.. ok in oils the white painted nine pane windows frames of the twenties are a pain in the rear, in water colour and its no joy trying to use masking fluid,what about a white watercolor.

Just remembered - I do use white acrylic ink with some success and it seems to last forever.

Not sure if this is a tip or not,but I often use white gesso to mix with colours to add opaque touches in watercolour,or,as has already been mentioned,white chromacolour, as it dries matt.

Had to dig my way through the snow to the studio this morning - abandoned the idea of a BBQ - anyway I spotted my brush rest – made out of a couple of brass coat hangers mounted on a wooden base. Works well for me.

Ultra fine lines & detail? Use a dipping pen and acrylic ink... Buy a set of nibs... Always pull the pen down the painting... Don't press too hard... Don't overload the nib with ink!! Cover the rest of the painting in paper towelling...until you get the hang of it..

My tip ...... If in doubt, leave it out.... Really only for watercolour work as anything else used can be corrected.

Just been mounting and wrapping a painting and while I was doing so I wondered how others protect their working surface when using a Logan cutter. I have always used a foam board which you get at most large stationary suppliers. What do others use?

Here's another. Do you have problems covering mounted paintings and prints in cellophane? I have an elongated brass door stop which I use to keep the studio door open. Well it doubles up and comes into its own when I use it to hold cellophane in place while I sellotape it down.
