I'm doing a local Open Studios this year - the first one I've ever done. As a side project, there is a collaborative sketchbook thing happening. Artists who choose to be involved get an A5 landscape sketchbook, for which they choose a theme. They then fill a number of pages (up to five double page spreads) with things related to the theme. Then they pass the book on to the next artist, exchanging it for another, with a different theme. Again, they then fill up to five double page spreads with things related to this theme. And then it all happens again. There are 42 artists taking part, split into six groups. Each group has eight sketchbooks to work in. After five months, it will be done; the sketchbooks will be collected together and exhibited, and a book featuring work from the sketchbooks will be published. So far, we have made one exchange. That means we've all done our own theme and are partway through someone else's. My own theme was/is "In the Clouds" I've put the images on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/zalamanda/sets/72157647137791024/ The theme I'm working on is "Trolls". (Yes, really) I have one double page spread to do. Everything else is on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/zalamanda/sets/72157649055569819/ And the story behind Troll Doll 3 ( http://www.painters-online.co.uk/Gallery/Amanda-Bates-Troll-Doll-3/_ga102598_pg1 ) is that I was loaned 3 dolls, put 2 in the sketchbook, and the third I painted as a thankyou gift.
This will be the second time this morning I have tried to post this. Frustration is setting in I might go walk about if this doesn't work . My local Sketch book Collaboration is now well underway, some of us are quicker than others so a bit of a hiatus happens occasionally . My theme is body parts that is making people think outside the box. I am working on one at the moment "pots and containers" we are filling about five pages in each book. I did think I might do a page of coffins then decided that was a bit way out of the box or the coffin!!!! . So I have filled my pages with decorative boxes , eggs in bowls , baby birds in nests and a page of shells. I am finding that it makes me pick up a pencil when I might be looking at Face Book so a bit of discipline. Here are two of my efforts.......I hope .
