I wondered if anyone has made it to see the Sargent watercolour exhibition yet at the Dulwich Picture Gallery? I'm so excited to see it for myself, but will have to wait until the end of September. A few years back I was fortunate to see a big exhibition of his Venetian watercolours in Venice, inspirational. This exhibition has a variety of subject matter and places, and some of my all-time favourites are there. There's a really nice video walkthrough of the exhibition on their website with Lachlan Goudie talking about some of the works on show. www.dulwichpicturegallery.org.uk
I'm thinking I'd like to make the trip, nearer September. I too went to "Sargent in Venice", being where it was, as well as seeing his paintings was marvellous.
Probably won't get to the current exhibition but would have enjoyed the 'Sargent in Venice' show as I'm heading there in October.
It was special wasn't it Marjorie? I bought the catalogue that went with the show but as it's in Italian I could only admire the pictures! Looking forward to seeing a more diverse range of subjects in this exhibition. October is my favourite time of year for Venice Peter, lucky you! Will you be painting? :-)
Will have my other half with me in Venice and while she is happy to watch me paint I have to acknowledge it's a holiday for her as well as me so will be doing watercolour sketches, notans and photos to bring back home to work on in the studio.
Wow Marjorie! Must be wonderful to speak the language when you visit. I've just ordered the exhibition catalogue from the Dulwich show and am looking forward to being able to read it as well as drool over the images :-)
Yes that's different Peter... it must also be an enjoyable holiday for your wife! The last few times I've been to Venice have been with artist friends, and we indulge ourselves painting during all the available daylight hours and then get together to eat in the evenings... it works so well that way! Mind you, sometimes there's additional nocturne painting too... definitely burn the candle at both ends when I'm away on a painting trip ;-)
