My daughter saw a painting in a shop window and loved it. It cost an arm and a leg so there was no way she could buy it, so I have copied it for her. I don't know who the artist is because the signed bit at the bottom of the painting was covered up by another painting (the shop was closed as it was a Sunday). I took a photo on my phone for reference and used that to try and paint it for her.
Do you think it is ethical to post this on the gallery. My inclination is not to do it as I haven't ever copied work before and what I post is my own work solely.
I don't want some irate artist bearing down on me, so am not sure about the protocol of this situation. Advice welcome.
