I managed last week to sneak a couple of hours at the Paul Durand-Ruel exhibition at the National's Sainsbury wing. He was the chap who 'discovered' the French Impressionists and promoted them against the then current prejudices against their style of painting. The exhibition has an awesome collection of Impressionist works on display and my two hours were totally inadequate - but then I was on a business trip and not supposed to be in an art gallery! The exhibition closes on 31st May so if you get a chance get along as, even if you are not into impressionist painting, it is a revealing and engrossing collection of paintings, apart from the story of Paul D-R himself and his family.
