I have bought one that is still in the plastic wrap but my initial quick impressions were that the surface may be too 'non-absorbent' for watercolour and that acrylic paint may get between the gaps and when dry my cause problems when first breaking the pieces apart.
Hopefully I am wrong on both counts and it good to hear that you used white acrylic on yours. Other than that it seems a really novel idea at a great price.
