A scalpel is the best pencil sharpen, it can be used to vary the shape of your drawing point.bestMick
I did reply to this question earlier today, but it seems to have got lost in the ether? I mainly use a small pocket knife with a slow thumb action, but in the past I had a weird hobby of collecting sharpeners. Of those I prefer my twin staedtler, but also have a plastic version that produces a very fine point. Also a sandpaper block can help achieve this after sharpening.
Re ; Sharpening Colour Pencils I use a rotary sharpener which I find pretty good...You have to screw it very firmly to a base with the wing nut supplied ...It's made by Faber Castell, has an adjustment for a fine or rounded point, and has rarely broken any of my Derwent Coloursoft leads during use. Not battery operated...the turning handle stops when the required sharpness is reached.
I can't remember where I stumbled across a video of a lady demonstrating how to use a pocket knife as a sharpener - probably on YouTube? sometimes a video demo is much better than a diagram with text! But once you get the hang of the technique you can wittle away to get just the point you require, but as I mentioned before, if you stumble across a decent sharpener, the combination of the two is perfect!
well i usually use either a knife or a metal pencil sharpener..............
