I took a number of paintings for exhibition to a local gallery. Three sold immediately and the others are still there. I also picked up and completed a commission while attending the exhibition. That was two months ago and I am still waiting for the money for all of the sales. I've no doubt that I will be paid eventually but it made me realise my niaivity and my lack of organisation. I never asked for a receipt for my pictures, never had a written figure for the gallery's commission and kept no record of what the paintings were. If push came to shove I wouldn't be able to prove that I gave them any pictures, or that any were sold or that I was due any fee. If you're as disorganised as me, learn from my mistakes and get organised. The galleries are professional; some of us probably need to up our game.
