A niggle... Has anyone got any correct advice about this?   <div>The open exhibition season is about to begin .  Commission is paid by the artist to the gallery if they are lucky enough to sell a painting.  Commission can be any thing between 25 % and 45% .  Ok it's what it is , but then some galleries add V A T on top of this at the full rate.  So the artist pays both commission and V A T .  If, as in my case the artist is not V A T registered and how many of us are , how can we be liable for the tax ?  I was discussing this yesterday with an artist friend and we were counting the cost of putting paintings into exhibitions.  The painting materials , the time taken , the frame , the entry fee , the commission then insult to injury V A T .</div><div>I  wonder is it claimable back ? </div><div>I haven't sold much in recent times mainly because I rarely put stuff into an exhibition and when I do I need to price my work accordingly , it becomes expensive .</div><div>Any useful thoughts . </div>
