I went as planned last Saturday to Art in Action at Waterperry House - did anyone else go? I was really impressed by the overall high standard of exhibitors; similar events are often dominated by the twee crafts brigade, but everyone at AinA was there by invitation so there was an excellent selection process. First of all I headed for the painting marquee where professional artists were working and exhibiting; my thanks to Jenny Wheatley, Francis Bowyer and others for taking the time to chat whilst effortlessly developing superb paintings. Soraya French was demonstrating acrylic inks with oil pastels in The Artist and Leisure Painter tent, and elsewhere were artists working on clay modelling, lino cut, calligraphy. The Art of Asia marquee held artists from India, China and Taiwan - I particularly liked the traditional Chinese brush and ink demonstration, and work in the 'peasant' style of flat colourful gouache. Excellent pottery, metalwork, jewellery; a great day out and the sunny weather was a bonus. If you couldn't make it then I would definitely recommend that it is worth the effort next year.
