Last Sunday we had the second of the art fairs that a friend and I decided to put on in a local park. Both have been a great success with about 20 artists exhibiting. The park itsself is just off the prom so we got lots of visitors as luckily both days were very sunny. I sold four at the first one and two at the second, and got a commission out of it. The wall has little alcoves in it (refered to locally as The Ovens) where there were once seats but they lend themselves ideally to show art with some protection from the weather.
It was actually suprisingly easy to do, and I would recommend any artist who has nowhere to exhibit to organise their own fair. If you have a park or open space that has a wall or railings on which you could hang pictures, get in touch with your Parks Dept. at the local council. We found ours very helpful because it doesn't cost them much and if you can convince them it is for the good of the community, so much the better. Then advertise for artists, and nearer the day put adds all over the district and in the local papers. We plan to have two more this year on the first Sundays in August and September and then will start again next May. Go ahead and do it it.s fun and you get lots of contacts.Click below for piccy.(It did get more crowded later, promise!)
