Ruth and Robert, thank you for those leads and ideas, I will explore over the next few days.
I have been in contact again with the Wiltshire & Swindon Historical Society where all archives and records for Trufood and Cow & Gate are kept. I recalled that one of the above images was used on a book 'Cradle Days', 1950 and asked the Archivist if the artists name was mentioned. This was the reply:
"Dear Rob
I have located ‘ cuddle your baby when you want to ‘ as the cover for the Cradle Days booklet and ‘ let her do things for herself ‘ on the cover of the booklet From Spoonfeeding to Family Meals ( ref 2448/12/9/1/5/7) Neither booklet gives details of the ‘artist’ – artwork and design was probably done in-house and no records survive of this ."
So I'm fairly certain I've explored that avenue throughly.
Thanks for your interest,
Rob Pullen.

Ruth, I have looked at some work by the artists you mentioned. Again, lovely work. I'm not sure the artist though.
The closest I have come to in terms of style and date is an image for Daddies Sauce adverts.
Google: "daddies sauce vintage adverts" and view images you'll see what I mean. The general treatment of the hair, features and skin is so similar. Stylised but not cartoony, if that makes any sense.

Rob one last ditch attempt. Most art schools teach illustration as a subject, just a possibility that a decent tutor would have some knowledge. Do you have a local art school? They might well be really interested to look at your collection and be able to help. Whilst numbskulls like me just fish around....sorry Ruth I am not calling you a numb skull.

Did you look at the advertising archives? I left a link a few days ago. Posters, adverts. Search by product, year etc. Also, although I haven't used it, you can leave a message asking if they have any information on a given illustration. Not the easiest site to use, but worth a go. Here's the link again ;

Tried that one once, on a landlord who was dubious about my pet rat: "he's a long-tailed hamster", I said.... winningly. Nervously, landlord stroked the "hamster's" head: and - playing the game beautifully - this socking gurt rat who was obviously NOT a hamster licked his finger. All was well after that. Wonder if he ever twigged....<div>
