I'm an EC&I tech by trade, but I've decided to take up painting and pyrography as a hobby to keep myself sane during my spare time (preparing for retirement). I'm learning off youtube and reading Leisure Painter and The artist as I find that it has helped me develop further in my pursuit. I find Acrylic the best medium to use and also ventured into pyrography. I have been painting mainly dogs as a friend's daughter lost their jack russell a few years ago and they gave me an old picture for reference and asked me to paint. My friend's Daughter Janie lost her latest dog Jake and she asked her dad (my friend Glen) if I could paint a picture of Jake but with a picture of his paw in the painting. I agreed and did a painting in acrylic on 8.3 x 11.7 inches  acrylic board and framed it. I couldn't decide as to where to put the paw so did pyrography on a cheeseboard with paw. Again acrylic on 8.3 x 11.7 inches board. jake and paw If anyone wants to see and comment on any of my paintings I'm on pol gallery www.painters-online.co.uk/artists/andymac or instagram https://www.instagram.com/andymaccer/  What makes me keep going and makes me happy is when someone sees 1 of my paintings, I give it to them and get a message as below I'm an almost absolute beginner, and have only been drawing for a few years so learning everyday. Thanks for reading and if you feel you could give some comments feel free, I would appreciate it.  Regards Andy McCaffrey

Welcome Andy from another newbie :) I couldn’t see all of your photos but the ones that are there are lovely. I’m not surprised that your friends are so happy with the result.  I too mainly use acrylics, and have been enjoying trying different techniques and gels too.  Forgive my ignorance but what is pyrography? Carrie
Hi carrie I'll have to adjust my post and word and attach better. Pyrography is burning art into wood and I then also paint the art in the wood See if you can open these links and this is some pyrography Abba for wife Ozzy for friend at work Thanks for comment Andy
