I think, hope and pray I have managed to insert the liquid charcoal plus dry charcoal touches of which I spoke days ago.  Fingers crossed.

Nice gentle effect Robert. I’ve never had much success with liquid charcoal, it all comes out rather insipid.

I agree about the tonal weakness - this was my first experiment with it.  I'll use it again, but in conjunction with other materials, like ink, I think.  It's possible that a different paper would work better... endless room for experiment. A really top class practitioner of charcoal drawing, sometimes using liquid charcoal and charcoal powder, is the Cornish painter Andrew Barrowman: I think I've mentioned him before, but it won't hurt to mention him again; you can find him on Youtube.  And incidentally, I've just bought a facsimile copy of his 2025 sketchbook - much of the work in it painted in casein: I've looked at that paint, but to equip myself with a useful collection of colours, I'd have to dip into the ISA just a bit more than I'd want to....
