A long shot this, but if you're offered paintings by William Miller Frazer, or Samuel Bough, and particularly if you suspect the person trying to sell them might come from the Isle of Wight, the island's police would like to hear from you. Paintings by both artists - Victorian oil painters, the former living from around 1868 to 1964 - have been stolen from a house in Ryde, Isle of Wight.
If you know any gallery owners or collectors of 19th/20th century British oil paintings, perhaps you'd tip them off.
