Are you working from a photograph or is it that you just have no idea of the colour and working from a line illustration. As regards mixing colours, understanding what your colours will give if mixed together is a place to start. Make yourself a colour chart. start with a row of colours across the top and in a column down the side. Then moving across and down mix a colour from the top row and side column so you end up with a grid of different colour combinations. Then of course varying the proportions of one or other colour will give a different result. It's a good exercise to learn about colour mixing. Then of course there is the matter of tonal value, have a look at this page on my website about that. http://www.artyman.adsl24.co.uk/wip/lesson3.html Any more questions don't be afraid to ask.
if you could post me a pick of how far you are with it.. I could maybe post you back with how I would aproach it and colours I would use /churches are different colours of stone in parts of the country ,the area helps preppare snap it. and add your e mail to your profile if you like ,or pop it on here
Good advice there to which I can't add - whereabouts are you?  If you're looking for a tutor, there are probably some on POL who would oblige - sounds as if they're in short supply where you are.
had to take photo with phone, sorry for the quality, daughter had camera lead and not gave it back
