Came across this site http://listverse.com/2008/12/07/11-artists-working-in-unusual-media/ and wondered what the most unusual media you have ever used might be? Possibly some inspiration for the weekend here - you never know!

Just seen this subject and it reminds me of something I saw about 15 years ago. In Bristol Cathedral the Cathedral school held their annual 6th form exhibition of painted works and every one of them, something like 60 or so pieces were painted using different brands and types of either Tea and Coffee only, no drawing allowed just straight in with the brush or whatever. The paintings, part of their examinations, were very good, lots of life and imagination. Some abstracty things but also lots of more traditional landscapes and still life etc. I spoke to the tutor and she said it was a very enjoyable exercise for the children. I did try it afterwards but not with the same results. I'm at present going through a 3 month series of watercolour painting exercises so I might just give it another try.

I should try dilute watercolour rather than tea or coffee - both are very good at staining tablecloths, or the porcelain of your loo if you're daft enough to tip your tea-leaves or coffee grounds down there, but unfortunately they fade away to nothing on paper. It'd be a pity, if you did produce anything interesting, to see it gradually disappear.

I once painted a picture of a fairground carousel with gouache on glasspaper (sandpaper to non woodworkers) it really shone and the colours were very vibrant and bright. I don't want to swear as to its longevity but it would probably have lasted as long as pastel.
This I don't really know as I lost track of it many years ago.
