I'm an avid reader of novels about art and artists, and wondered if anyone can come up with any titles or authors I have not read.
I've read most of the well known ones I think like, Girl with a Pearl Earing, Lust for Life, The Burglar who Painted Like Mondrian, Tulip Fever, Ian Pears series of Art Detective novels and many others, but am always looking for new reads, particularly if it is not obvious that they are about art or artists, like John Updike's novel about Jackson Pollock's wife, " Seek My Face" a highly recommended book.

Thanks for your reply, Syd, good idea but I've not found a fishing chair that suits (they tend to be low, or heavy-ish or have arms).
But in fact this afternoon I suddenly remembered the chairs and stool I'd seen a couple of years ago, and have ordered the stool for now which is extra lightweight.
In case anyone else is interested:
1. Phillips De Luxe folding chair (1.6kg)
2. Walkstool Comfort (Swedish design, weighs only 800g).

ArtBean - 2014-03-24 10:23 AM Hello, can anyone recommend a particular make of chair to use when plein air sketching/painting? It needs to be a reasonable height, (i.e. not a low one like the one James Fletcher Watson uses in his dvd's), fold-up, without arms, and lightweight. Someone did recommend a camping chair a long time ago but I can't find the thread. Any advice or thoughts welcome on good/bad points and things to look out for. Thanks everyone. This is the thread you were looking for: http://www.painters-online.co.uk/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=2088&posts=9 The chair I recommended in it is no longer available. There's a big choice of chairs in fishing tackle shops, although they are very heavy at around 4 or 5 kilos, and are usually too close to the ground. The best place to find chairs suitable for outdoor painting is to visit camping and walking shops.
