Do basic skills become instinctive?

I think as with anything if you put in lots of practice eventually it just clicks and you can do it. I don't know if it becomes instinct as such, as that suggests you don't have to think about it, it just becomes easier to do. You learn what does and doesn't work when looking at a scene, what you can realistically get from the scene yourself, you also learn if you can do it or not. For me the maths way of doing it just doesn't work, it's all by eye. When I tried the maths way it just looked wrong. Everything looked wonky?

There are so many different things artists see, experienced and beginners, that bring forth an emotion that they have to paint it. Some may find man-made structures inspiring others the natural world, To feel the artists emotion within the subject, in this instance, I would agree, practicing on a regular basis would increase the chance of portraying a subject successfully.
