My name is Pat Harris. I'm 72 years old. I was bereaved in 2019. My late husband died two months before Lockdown 1.
I used to knit to help overcome anxiety. After Eamonn died, I found I no longer had anyone for whom I could knit. I've always kept a photo journal and found I was keen to paint some of my favourite images. My first attempt was this Vetrianno-style image of a Beachcombing Couple at Southwold.. I had a canvas marked-up with the major components and used acrylics.
I have just signed up for a local begiiners' watercolour class. I find painting very soothing. It's a form of mindfulness I want to explore further.

Hi Pat, welcome to the forum. I am a tad older than you and I lost my lovely husband just over a year ago. So I have an idea of how you are feeling. This lovely lot on here will be heipful and kind….well usually and are great for advice. My painting / drawing has been a great help and escape from thinking. I’m not a knitte4 though I did in the dim and distant when my kids were young. Enjoy 🌻

Welcome, your painting looks really good. There is plenty on the tips and techniques on the site for beginners and plenty of demonstrations to follow. I often do them for some learning and practice. Everyone is helpful. I am also sorry to hear you had such a loss. I look forward to watching your progress.

Welcome - joining the ageing club, I'm 71 in a couple of weeks. Someone told me that today's 70 is yesterday's 50 - well, I'm not convinced at all by that, but will take it as consolation in weak moments.
I'm not the world's greatest watercolourist, but I do have a go: my real medium is acrylic, and increasingly oil -- always ready to advise if required, as are many others here, including Alan Bickley, one of our star performers! Your painting is good; and if you take up knitting again - I could do with a new cardigan..........
