I am considering an idea to start a watercolour painting group in York.
In the past I attended a meeting of a local self-help group, where people seemed to get on with whatever they were doing and there was very little direction or tuition offered. I have just finished a short course on painting and drawing for adults. I also found it offereing very little in term of tuition.
So I sat down and laid out a weekly programme of the subjects I would like to cover throughout the year. At the base of any successful painting is a good drawing and composition. So I decided to start with Drawing and progress towards Watercolour.
The purpose of the group is to encourage exchange of ideas and techniques, to stimulate artistic inspiration and to provide some guidance/tutorial elememt. All age groups are welcome (apart from young children).
I have found a venue in York which can be used as a studio. I am going to visit and check it out after Christmas to see the lighting conditions. I was told by the propriator that I would need to get about 10 people interested.
Cost- wise, I am trying to make it as little as possible. The venue charges £2.80 for entrance/ rent. And perhaps a small contribution to materials or any props needed for the session.
