Weller Centre art group Third week's diary This week’s attendance was a little disappointing, but it did mean that the two that showed up did have more individual attention, We started thinking about landscapes and what items one would want within the picture, I asked them to think about skies –colour. weather –stormy or calm ---situation- countryside-seaside-garden, scenery- flat or mountainous. etc. they then drew their chosen landscape using watercolour pencils, and drew from their own imagination, which was a feat in its self, no copying. Coffee break, then using water turned the paintings into watercolour, next week we start with watercolours and trees…. I had no idea how much time organising a two hour session for beginners would take, its almost a full time job but very satisfying. Will keep you all informed for it is so nice to be able to tell somebody my latest news, thank you all for your encouragement and lovely comments. I am very sorry for not getting the time to comment on all the lovely work on the gallery.
Well done Tao. You are doing something that many of us couldn’t, so huge respect to you. Numbers will no doubt go up and down, as they do even with long established groups. I went to a class a few weeks ago that I’ve been attending for many years, and only three of us turned up, so we went to someone’s house and watched a repeat of the Sky Arts portrait final! I’m sure yours will pick up as more people get to hear of it. As you say a good class does take a lot of organising and will keep you busy! Keep at it and keep us in the loop. Tessa
Sounds good Tao and work well done. I hope attendance keeps up. Let me.encourage you...i taught a class (not art but morse code, a sort of art) aboutsix years ago and it started well..5. Then it dwindled 4 then 2 etc. Well One person kept at it, just One...but it continues to give him enormous pleasure, it has in a way changed his life. So whether you get 1 or 100 Tap, you're doing valuable work. D
Keep going, I wouldn't dare to teach others and I'm sure your numbers will grow steadily if you persevere.
You are so right about preparation time. A couple of months back I was asked to do a workshop at a WI meeting. Some had never painted in their lives and the workshop was to last for one and a half hours. There were 20 participants so it was quite a challenge. I decided to buy a pack of blanck cards along with envelopes and cello - one set for each person there. I drew a simple scene and scribbled on the back with a 6B pencil (all 20 copies) so they could trace it directly onto the card and gave each a disposable plate with a small squirt of 4 different watercolour paints, a disposable cup of water, a brush each and kitchen roll. It was a great evening which everyone embraced many taking away original cards to be proud of - they all seemed to thoroughly enjoy the evening. Although the workshop ran for just one and half hours the prep, including chasing round for materials etc, took at least twice as long if not more. Despite this I found the whole experience quite uplifting especially when I received such warm thanks from the ladies - or was it because I was the only man in a room full of women - mmmm well!
