Pastel Workshop

Our art club had the immense privilege to take part in a 2-day pastel workshop with John Patchett, who often has articles in the 'Leisure Painter'; he lives in our area. It was a privilege as he only does the occasional 2-day. We ranged from beginners to experienced pastellists, but the information, tips, advice he gave us all was outstanding. He did about 1 hrs demo each morning then we started our paintings after he had been to each person and given advice on reference photos, pitfalls of such, etc., then coached, tutored and advised during the rest of the day when requested by each artist. By the end of the workshop all had produced at least 2 pieces of work, (with some 3 or 4!) and John did a short constructive 'crit', before advising on framing pastel paintings. The feedback from the weekend was that all enjoyed themselves which was excellent; this was the first time many had attended a workshop, and the first our club had organised. John was also pleased with the response, the results and the enthusiasm shown by the artists. We highly recommend him as a tutor.
