Was on Oriana earlier this year and they had an art class daily during sea days. It was only £20 for approx 25 lessons and including paint, brushes and paper. I was bitten by the painting bug, Frank, our teacher was direct and professional with us all.my fellow painters also loved the instruction and banter. Within days of getting home i bought all the gear and joined an art class. I will never be good enough to sell my paintings but the excitement and relaxation it gives me during my recent retirement makes life worthwhile getting up in the morning.
Welcome to the forum 893 . That course of tuition on Orion was very good value and has been very good for you. You say you will never be a good enough painter to sell your work. Well you will be if you stick to it and put in practice by enjoying your painting and as time. passes you will gain enough experience to be able to offer your work for sale at your local art class. Even getting your painting hung will give you a pleasant boost ,and the well known red spot on your painting frame indicating a sale is a marvellous monent and I am sure that will happenfor you . All the best....Syd
Yes I agree with Syd. Never cruised but I think I would be drawn to thos classes anyway. In my role as Programme Sec for our art club I booked a lady who in here who said she did cruise liners art lessons. When we spoke, she did say it was not really her thing, but I persuaded her it woud be and she's booked. She will be fine.
Frank - would that have been Frank Clark, I wonder? An engaging character, as Irish as the blarney-stone, who has taught hundreds of people to paint in his time, and given hundreds more confidence through his video demos. Possibly not your tutor at all though. But give the boy some publicity and credit?
Hi 9162893 Welcome to POL. I'm glad that you enjoyed your 'Oriana' cruise and the watercolour classes that you took. You would find that most cruise-liners have a guest or sometimes resident, artist. The subtlety is that the guest artist pays for their cruise and obviously have a sales pitch to help offset their costs. The resident artist is part of the crew for a season, and has no pressure for sales pitch. This artist would have been a tutor on a previous cruise who received possitve customer feedback. Then there are 'sponsored artists' who plug but one brand of art materials...especially if its in their name... These art classes are an entertainment and at £20 for twenty five classes it was good value for money! Like all art classes it is a good introduction to any art medium. Now that you've done the basics it's up to you to develop & hone your skills...with a view to eventually selling your art once you are a proficient artist. PS who was the tutor artist?
