I've always known that different makers' colours vary from each other but I've never seen such a massive difference as yesterday. I've been doing a painting of my dog and her brother in watercolour using a lot of Winsor and Newton Paynes Grey that I've used for years. I emptied my tube so started on a new tube of Paynes Grey without realising it was by Daler Rowney, Artist's watercolour. Thank goodness I realise immediately. The W/N when diluted was very very blue. The Daler Rowney was an incredible red/black absolutely nothing like the W/N colour I'm used to. I've never seen such a big difference before in any colour.
Has anyone else noticed such a BIG variation between makes?
I've tried to take a photo of them to show. Not sure how true to colour it will be.
