Someone on PO mentioned this artist a while ago and I looked his work up and fell in love with it! I just love that type of character painting of gritty northern life, fellas with their flat caps, pints on the bar, and the statutory whippet.  He has an exhibition on currently at the Bowes Museum which I would love to see but it’s too far from here for a day out, so I found his book “A Shot Against Time” online and its a delight, jam packed with colour illustrations of his wonderful work. It may have been Jim or Lewis who mentioned him, in which case thank you for the intro as I had not heard of him before. That’s another thing I like about this site, the mention of artists worth looking up, and a constant source of inspiration.
I agree about that aspect of POL, Tessa.  Following up on artists people mention, I've found several artists I didn't know and now really admire their work.  Norman Cornish is one.  Fantastic work, bursting with life.  I think it may have been Jim who put me onto him, but I can't remember.
