This painting does seem more contemporary with our time. A quite beautiful and unusual "watercolour". Thanks for the link.
Arthur Melville? Died 1904? travelled far & wide capturing the brilliance of the Mediterranean...?
I see you've been doing your homework again Mel - full marks! Thanks for your interest Colleen. His work looks looks quite spontaneous and intuitive but it's not - as I found out when I applied what I thought to be his approach on a painting of my own.
Surely a style to explore ! love the idea. Great painting and good to bring it to our attention.
Hello Rob,This is a painting process used by a lot of our contemporary watercolourists, especially by Ewa Karpinska. She is a former student of the French artist Jean-Louis Morelle and has now developed her own style. Her technique is a little bit different than Arthur Melville's : she mixes Chinese white with pure watercolours and then, she saturates the paper with colours. She uses the different stages of paper wetness to create different effects, lifting colours, ...Here is a link to view some of her works . The result is often abstract, her colours are still vibrant and transparent, despite the use of an opaque basis (Chinese White) .
Hi all, Does anyone know the best way to post pictures onto my gallery, hy using the stored photo file on my tablet? I know it sounds weird but when I've tried uploading, the pictures come out OK, but some are sideways instead of the right way up. Can anyone help?
