This weekend i have spent just playing with acrylic paint, as a child would really, making marks, dabbing on the page, using blocks of colour to form a picture. I have to say i have really enjoyed my playful weekend, i feel like i have managed to let go a little. My children also took a real interests in what i was doing too and joined in. We did a big abstract together (they are 5 and 4) and they really got involved. I would say their imagination made the painting 100x better than i could do alone. It really opened my eyes to my ridgid way of thinking when it comes to art and colouring within the lines. There is no wrong or right, messy works can look just as good as neat hyper realistic works, if the person whos looking at it appreciates it. Im going to spend a few more weeks just playing and instead of spamming the gallery with un gallery worthy works, I will be using this thread to post my progress. I hope to get some help, feedback and once in a while a little encouragement during my leaning curve. Belows a painting i did today and tomorrow i will post a pic of the painting me and the kids did together as i know you want to see their work too 😂. I may even post a few pics the kids do too as they are learning with me. Jen x
Acrylic is my medium of choice though I am certainly not master of it... I bought some retarder that I haven't tried out yet but have decided to stick to a pencil for a while so I am sure I will come back to it when a subject presents itself that I feel needed to be in paint. The rich colours and quick drying time seems to be their strong point but the quick drying time can also be a negative if trying to fill large volumes with smooth gradients which is why things always seem to go better if I break colour into blocks rather than try blending them all. Still if you are new to the medium I am sure it won't take you long to get to know how they behave. Enjoy the progress you will undoubtedly make, though it looks like you are off to a good start.
What fun you are having Jen and a lovely way to explore . Might I suggest that you pop all of this on the WIP page . Then we can wait for your updates .
Looks like you've had loads of fun :-) Experimentation and just messing around with ideas is a great learning tool.
