Before I take a proper look around the forums I thought I'd start a thread to say hi!
At school I was never any good at art, mainly because I tried to do everything 100% perfect which I simply was unable to do so I never got anywhere with it! I did manage one pencil drawing once but it took me all year as I kept rubbing bits out to get it accurate but never really succeeded.
I've always wanted to paint as a hobby but never took any steps to learn, until now that is!
It might sound daft, but I was inspired to start painting several years ago (but still didn't bother doing anything about it) whilst watching the BBC's Hustle drama on TV where it was about them trying to con someone in to buying an undiscovered Piet Mondrian painting which I really, really liked the look of and thought that I would really, really like to paint something like that and immediately pictured in my head what my garden would look like in that kind of style.
Over the years I have penciled out how I would like it to look like but never got my act together and get some paints to see how I get on with that.
Something just clicked the other day and I did a quick internet search to see the difference between watercolours, acrylics and oils and although I like the texture you can create with oils, it sounds like too much messing about (with regards to cleaning brushes etc. not to mention possible oily smells) for a beginner so acrylics seemed to be the way for me to go, so that's what I have purchased.
I've started a small blog detailing my thought processes and rough sketches that will ultimately become my paintings which along with learning about how to paint with acrylics in the style I have chosen is great fun!
