HI everyone, My name is Ian Fair and I'm a newcomer to the forum. I'm 53 and I live in Neath, South Wales. My regular job is a bus driver, but I've always enjoyed art for as long as I can remember. In my 20s I began cartooning and drawing comic strips for magazines and local gazettes, but over the years this seemed to fall out of favour commercially, and by the early 2000s the commisions dried up. Hardly anyone it seemed wanted cartoonists. Then about 4 years ago, I was out of work for a while, and my wife suggested that I take up painting as a hobby. So where to start? I decided on acrylics as a medium and started with some experiments on canvas, getting a feel for the materials. Gradually I produced some passable abstracts and figuratives largely through self teaching and books on technique. Since then I've managed to sell some pieces at craft fairs, though I don't think I'll give up the day job just yet! Looking forward to chatting with some of you.
