In the latest "Artist" a reader says he was horrified that the majority of works at a London Watercolour Society show were in acrylic. Well we will all have our views on this but I am unimpressed by the argument that acrylic is soluble in water therefore it is watercolour. Are "watersoluble oils" watercolour too?The use of acrylic as a medium requires an entirely different technique. I am delighted at the interest shown in pure watercolour and the popularity of exponents such as the late Edward Wesson and James Fletcher-Watson and now John Yardley, David Curtis, Bob Wade, John Hoar, John Tookey and Steve Hall. The newly formed Pure Watercolour Society aims to encourage just that - pure watercolour, and is holding its inaugural exhibiton at the Windrush Gallery Nr Burford. Hooray!
