Hi guys i have taken on a task of re-creating Idylls of the King on a large canvas, so far I'm happy with what I've done, but I've changed the scene from an overcast day to a night time semi clear starry sky. I need help from some one who either likes or is familiar with night scenes I have based my colors on Ultramarine blue, Cobalt blue, Prussian blue, Titanium white with a host of other mid colors but although very happy with the layout, and feel of the painting, i cant be consistent with tones, only because i cant decide what looks right. Ive put a link to the pictures please fell free to have a look and rip it or commend it and give feedback I've scanned the net for pictures of ruins at night but have found nothing interesting as of yet, so I'm winging it at the moment, i feel it looks a little cartoon for my taste, but don't know how to fix it. i would like some strong opinions of this so i can maybe re-assure myself that its either ok or completely wrong and change accordingly link: original: my attempt so far, it's still very sketchy in feel, not finished a thing yet, just trying to get a feel for where i want to go, but i am in a position where i like it but i don't, and i cant figure out what is wrong, maybe a multitude of aspects.. the sky is only for guidance, it will probably be a lot of cover apart from one section with the moon, and one section with some stars. truth is I'm more into browns and warm colors but i wanted to try something different, although this is proving difficult, its about the 3rd time I've changed it so far, more than anything i just want it consistent. I'm hoping to put it into Liskeard art fair in march (17th) and I''m spending about 5-6 hrs a day on it at the moment.
