I want to paint a dark foreground opening on to sunlit background. The main colours of the background are yellows, greens, burnt umber. The foreground is cast in dark shadow dappled with sunlit areas. The time of year is autumn. My problem is what colours do I use for the shadow foreground that would harmonize with the background colours? I am in the wilderness here. I love to paint but I have a terrible time with colours, particularly greens, reds. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you to all in advance!
