thats nice :-) and I like the finished background,it makes me think "africa" :-) I`m always one of those people that puts background in first, it suits the kind of work i do though.
your painting makes me think to paint more animals, usually i just use silhouettes of animals in my work,

This is acrylic, is it? In which case, I'd use a light acrylic varnish, such as is made by many companies: my current one is made by Chromacolour, and I like it because although it's a gloss, it's not one of those harsh, ultra-shiny glosses. This would suit - as many paintings really don't - a satin-effect varnish, I think. It would pay to give his some thought, and not just use whatever varnish you happen to have in the store-cupboard.
Golden Acrylics make good varnishes, I'm told: I can't vouch for that as I've never used them, but if you look up Will Kemp - just Google the name, you'll find him - he has a lot to say about the application of acrylic varnish. He's also very helpful in responding to requests for advice.
