Concerning brushes for acrylics some makers offer short or long handles. I have long and short ones of differenr makes and dont really see the need for long handled ones. Does that make me a short handled artist who doesnt like being further away from painting a good picture ? cheers,Syd
I tend to use long handled brushes for oil and acrylic as I believe my paintings look better from a distance...upwards of half a mile is sometimes appropriate!
If you're painting on an easel - which I usually do with acrylics - I think you need long-handled brushes. Rosemary & Co do both, though - I don't remember if they do them in all of their ranges, but it's good to have the choice. http://www.isleofwightlandscapes.net http://www.wightpaint.blogspot.co.uk
Being visually challenged I work very close to the surface with a short handled Ivory [Rosemary & Co] brush. The LONG not Ling [my poor vision, poor tryping & not proof reading] handled variety would be through the eye heading to the centre of my brain space.

I did use long brushes and holding away from the bristles, can't now.
For what it's worth, I like to use short handled Ivory from Rosemary & Co. But I'm with you Stub on the half mile bit.
