Guildford Art Society returns to Guildford House Gallery for 78th annual exhibition

Brimming with talent and personal achievements, Guildford Art Society returns to Guildford House Gallery this autumn with its 78th Annual Exhibition. Bringing together a selection of works from amongst 340 members, this all-selling exhibition promises to showcase a refreshing and diverse arrangement of thought provoking pieces through a variety of media. Regular visitors to Guildford House Gallery will be pleased to see work from familiar artists, along with some exciting new names. Displays will include a mix of three dimensional sculptures, wood engravings, traditional portraits and landscapes, and works in both botanical and abstract forms.

Artists come to exhibit their work from as far as Woking, Farnham, Dorking and Petersfield and have faced an independent selection committee to be included in the show. Some of the highlights of the 2010 exhibition include: Paintings from Celia Lewis, water colourist who has illustrated a book entitled: The Illustrated Guide to Chickens, the book includes a painted portrait gallery of 100 different breeds of chickens and offers practical advice. A foreword is contributed by HRH The Prince of Wales. Familiar favourite Jenefer Ham, whose work is on permanent display in the Guildford House Gallery shop, will exhibit her glass sculptures which are fashioned from natural elements and which become transparent waves with fluid and ephemeral qualities. …1/3 Sculptor Christine Charlesworth has created large athletic figures in bronze resin as part of a series of sport sculptures created for the Lloyds Banking Group 'The Art of Sport' working towards the 2012 Olympics. Christine is inspired by movement in the human body and enjoys the challenge of depicting 'sport in action’. She is working on a portrait of Ade Adepidan the Paralympics gold medallist and TV presenter. Christine, along with Sue Jelly, Rosemarie de Goede, Sera Knight, Rosemary Miller, Liz Seward-Rolfe and Christine Taherian are all exhibiting members of the Society of Women Artists showing their work at the Mall Galleries. Liz Carolan had a painting accepted there this year. John Bryce ARE, SWE, GavA, RE will be showcasing a selection of wood engravings. He is now a full member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers. His works have been shown in the Originals 10 Contemporary Print Show at the Mall Galleries and the 10 London Original Print fair at the Royal Academy. Other distinguished members of the Society include Roger Dellar RI, ROI,PS, Margaret Palmer PS the well known portraitist , and six members of the Society of Floral Painters; Jan Harbon, Nola Armstrong, Liz Sherras-Clark, Liz Seward- Rolfe, Susie Lidstone and Fiona Wheeler.
