Botanical Illustration in Gouache and Watercolour
This course allows you to try painting a botanical subject using either gouache or watercolour, both water-based mediums. Gouache can be used in different styles: either watercolour method of light to dark, keeping translucency, or dark to light, building layers up more opaquely. Building up opaque layers is a careful process and can give the picture a good strong quality. Watercolour relies on the paper to produce the highlights whereas gouache can use white paint for highlighting over the top of stronger colour layers. Course tutor: Simon Williams is a member to the Society of Botanical Artisits and regularly displays work at Royal Horticultural Society shows. He was awarded a silver-gilt medal for paintings of orchids in gouache. Fee: Residential sgl £193/sh £173; non-res £137 All prices include all meals, accomodation and workshop
