Austin Wright: A Sculptor's Drawings

Austin Wright: A Sculptor's Drawings

An exhibition of drawings and prints by Yorkshire sculptor Austin Wright (1911-1997).

'Austin Wright: A Sculptor's Drawings' offers a rare opportunity to see a superb collection of work by an artist regarded in 1955 as ‘the most gifted sculptor working in Britain today’. A natural successor to Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth, only a year after becoming a full time sculptor Wright was selected to show in the British Council’s 1956 ‘Younger British Sculptors’ exhibition alongside Kenneth Armitage, Lynn Chadwick, Elizabeth Frink and Eduardo Paolozzi. Wright’s drawings reveal a fascination with the geometry of plant forms, his interest in rock formations and his underlying love of the Yorkshire landscape. 'Austin Wright: A Sculptor's Drawings' runs from Sat 6 July to Sat 27 July, 2013, open Monday to Saturday, 10am - 1pm and 2 - 5pm.
