Accompanying this collection of exquisite examples of furniture design are pieces of applied art from leading members of the Society of Designer Craftsmen, founded by William Morris, and who still carry his torch. Works included are installations of patinated pewter by Melanie Guy, embroidered wall-hangings by Carol Naylor and a mixed media installation ‘End Paper’ by Susan Cutts. Martin Grierson commenting on the spirit of the latest of this series of exhibitions, said: “In our selection for this exhibition we demonstrate that the ethos of The Arts and Crafts period from the early 20th Century is thriving today, as illustrated through these exquisite pieces by today’s designer-makers in their contemporary designs.” Christopher Claxton Stevens, former Master of the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers and former director of Norman Adams Ltd said: “This exhibition offers potential collectors a showcase of the finest work, outstanding in materials, function, craftsmanship, as well as design. Purchasers can enjoy that really rewarding experience of patronage by creating a functional, tailor-made work of art, which will be enjoyed long into the future. At ‘The Arts & Crafts Legacy’, clients will be able to see the work of leading makers, live and in three dimensions. There will also be things to fall in love with and purchase on the spot!”
